April 15th Federal Tax Deadline Automatically Extended Due to COVID-19

ALERT! IMPORTANT TAX CHANGES BELOW!

The federal income tax return filing due date has automatically been extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. Taxpayers do not need to file an extension to qualify; however, an extension will need to be filed if you require additional time beyond July 15th.

Taxpayers may also defer federal income tax payments normally due on April 15, 2020, to the extended deadline of July 15, 2020. There is no limit to the amount of payment that may be postponed and this deferment is done without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. This change applies to all taxpayers, including individuals, trusts and estates, corporations, and other non-corporate tax filers, as well as those who pay self-employment tax.

The government is currently encouraging taxpayers who expect to receive a refund to file as soon as possible.

Please note that these changes affect federal returns and payments only. States are making their own determinations regarding whether or not to extend their due dates.
